Low-Fi Backstage with Claus Dencher

Claus has always had a deep passion for music. His musical journey began with a friend at school, where they bonded over their shared love for music from the 60s and 70s. They took guitar lessons together and started recording their own songs on a tape recorder, fueling their rock star dreams. This seed of passion has now grown into a career that Dencher cannot imagine living without.

Claus shared that his inspirations stem from great old singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan and Neil Young, along with newer artists like Roo Panes and Gregory Alan Isakov. He is drawn to their ability to create powerful expressions with just an acoustic guitar and their voice.

As an artist, Dencher strives to achieve the same level of pure expression in his music. He describes himself as a serious songwriter who wants to tell a good story. “A bigger goal I have as a singer-songwriter is to constantly develop my expression and thereby become a better singer and songwriter. That is a lifelong job.” Claus admits.

Claus Dencher at a Low-Fi concert

I started my musical career in the band Tankens Bager. I was a singer and songwriter and wrote Danish songs. We played many concerts, and among them a few big ones. The band has even released two EPs.” Claus mentioned. In 2017, he embarked on his solo journey and started writing in English. He released three singles in 2019 and his first solo album YOU in 2022, which has received high praise for his songwriting and his charming, catchy singing voice.

When asked about his proudest musical achievement, Claus said it was his first solo album release in 2022. He is especially proud of the positive reviews he received from music critics. “The album was recorded with some of Denmark’s most celebrated musicians. They all contributed to raising the record to a fantastic quality.” he highlighted.

Claus discovered Low-Fi through a conversation with fellow musicians at a small festival, and he decided to join the community because he felt that its concept aligned well with his solo performances. He loves the intimate atmosphere of Low-Fi shows, where he can refine his songs and connect with the audience on a deeper level.

For Claus, music is not just a hobby or a job, but a necessity to express himself. He is constantly striving to develop his expression and become a better singer and songwriter. As a musician, he hopes that his songs resonate with people and that they can relate to his honest storytelling.
