“Hosting an intimate concert is a great way to socialize”

Low-Fi’s Host of the Month in December is Jimmy Svensson, the host behind the host profile SvenssonSvenssons. Jimmy has been a host on Low-Fi since June 2021, and together with his family, he has already arranged three concerts in his living room in Ulricehamn.

Jimmy lives together with his wife Hanna and their children Elis, 14, and Ebbe, 10. The whole family is involved when they arrange concerts, everyone is helping out when the artist and guests arrive. That’s why they call themselves SvenssonSvenssons – it is a family activity!

Jimmy Svensson, Host of the Month.

Jimmy and Hanna attended a concert at Low-Fi’s Sweden launch in Gothenburg in June 2021. They absolutely loved the experience of a home concert. Immediately when they got home Jimmy applied to be a host on Low-Fi so that they could have artists in their own living room as well.

Since then, the Svensson family has hosted three concerts in their living room and two planned for the spring. We asked Jimmy some questions about the experience of hosting home concerts.

Loves how being a host gets you closer to the music

“I hope everyone feels welcome when they arrive. We welcome the guests at the door, arrange a welcome drink, and up until now we have arranged named seats for everyone so it should be as Covid friendly as possible.”

Jimmy explains “We like small intimate concerts and therefore it is nice to invite others to do so in our own living room. The artist gets so close and exposed. And the meetings that take place before and after the gigs between the audience and the artists is so unique. How often do you get the opportunity to sit down and talk to the artist after a concert?”

A bit nervous before the first concert

When asking Jimmy if he faced any challenges of being a host, he told us that everything has gone very well. Before the first concert, they were a bit nervous that everyone would be able to see and hear well from all seats since they tried to make the room as Covid friendly as possible.

They have continued with the same approach as all three concerts have been sold out and they want everyone to feel comfortable and have a good experience.

We should be better at opening up our home to others

From hosting concerts, Jimmy and his family have learned to dare to open up their home to others. “We get so much back and meet wonderful people who we never would have met otherwise and to top that they come to my own home and listen to great music”, Jimmy explains.

Jimmy tells us that their first concert was really special. They were excited about how the concert would turn out and if the artist, Christian & 2120’s, was as good as they thought? They were also nervous since they had lured their friends over to attend a concert in their living room for the first time. The concert went really well and both the guests and Christian & 2120’s were happy. So happy that Christian will come back for a second concert in the Svensson living room in May 2022.

Is James Walker getting better at playing FIFA?

“Both of our upcoming concerts are with artists who have been here before and we look forward to both of those. Will Christian’s concert be as wonderful as his first one? And James Walker who played here in September is coming back in May and I’m looking forward to hearing if he has composed something new. But I guess the biggest question is if he has gotten better at playing FIFA, so he can win against the kids?

However, the coolest thing is probably the concert guest Nads. She flew in all the way from Ireland to attend the James Walker concert last September. And now she has already booked a ticket to come back for the concert in May!”

Finally, we asked Jimmy if he had any tips and advice for other hosts. “Hosting a concert is a great way to socialize while you get an intimate gig in your own home. So there is nothing to doubt about. Invite your friends and you will have wonderful evenings together.”
